US-Russia Cooperation Revival : Aluminum, Energy, and Space Among Key Sectors

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to resume cooperation with the United States, opening doors for potential agreements in various industries. Financial and geopolitical analyst Tom Luongo noted that under President Trump, US-Russia relations would likely be “transactional,” with Russia holding leverage due to Washington’s decreasing reliance on European partners.

One key sector under discussion is aluminum, with Putin proposing the sale of 2 million tonnes annually to stabilize prices. Additionally, Boeing is rumored to be considering a return to Russia, potentially resuming titanium purchases. The rare earth industry could also see collaboration, as Russia holds significant reserves, while US technology and investment could enhance extraction. Meanwhile, reports suggest American energy firms are interested in re-entering Russian markets, particularly in offshore hydrocarbon exploration.

Beyond trade, scientific and technological cooperation is being explored, including potential partnerships between Russian scientists and Elon Musk in fields such as nuclear technology, microbiology, and artificial intelligence. Discussions are reportedly underway regarding joint space missions, with Russia working on a new Orbital Service Station and Musk planning uncrewed missions to Mars by 2026. Additionally, both nations may revive counter-terrorism efforts and disaster relief collaboration, with Russia highlighting its Be-200 aircraft as a potential asset in fighting California wildfires.
