Tunisia: Tunisians begin casting ballots in presidential elections

TUNIS – Around 5,013 polling stations, out of 9,669, opened on Sunday at 8:00 AM (GMT+1) for Tunisia’s presidential election, according to TAP news agency.
The three prospective candidates include Ayachi Zammel, Zouheir Maghzaoui, and Kais Saied.
The Tunisian Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) said it had mobilised 42,000 agents and presidents of polling centres for the voting day, along with 2,000 abroad.
The latest statistics indicated that about 9.753,217 voters (50.4% women and 49.6% men) are expected to turn out at the polls. Voters under the age of 35 accounted for 32.6%, while 21.8% aged between 36 and 45. In addition to 642,810 voters overseas, who began casting their ballots since October 4, added the same source.
Polling stations will close at 6 p.m. (local time), and the preliminary results are expected to be announced on Monday evening, according to a statement from the spokesperson of the Independent High Authority for Elections.
