Third Round of U.S.-Iran Nuclear Talks Begins in Geneva

The third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States concerning the Iranian nuclear file got underway on Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland, mediated by Oman, according to media reports.

The first and second rounds of talks were held earlier this month in the Omani capital, Muscat, and in Geneva, respectively.

On Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that an agreement was “within reach, but only if diplomacy prevails.” Iran will resume the talks “determined to reach a fair and equitable agreement in the shortest possible time,” he added.

While the United States has repeatedly called on Iran to halt uranium enrichment, Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and insists on its right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.
