Tebboune Reaffirms Algeria’s Open Import Policy and Encourages Global Brand Investments

ALGIERS – The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed during the Council of Ministers meeting he chaired on Sunday that Algeria has not banned imports in any field, except for what is manufactured locally and covers national market needs, giving strict instructions to the Government to counter any attempt aimed at tarnishing Algeria’s image with global commercial brands.
The Algerian President “recalled once again that Algeria has not banned imports in any field, except for what is manufactured locally and whose production volume covers the needs of the national market,” highlighting that “the set goal is to rationalize and organize imports by sector, putting an end to recurring speculation attempts on imported products such as spare parts, whose importation remains open and has not been subject to any decision banning it,” as per the council of ministers’ press release.
Tebboune has given “strict instructions to the Government to counter any attempt aimed at tarnishing Algeria’s image with global commercial brands, by facilitating and encouraging investment, particularly by young people, in the marketing of global brands that are very successful in large shopping centres or malls, and which attract many young Algerians,” said the same source.
