ALGIERS, February 19, 2025 – The Algerian National Oil Company Sonatrach group has engaged in discussions with a delegation from the American company Chevron to explore ways to strengthen their cooperative relationship, particularly in the development of oil and gas resources, according to a statement from the public group.

The meetings took place on Tuesday at the headquarters of Sonatrach’s General Directorate during an audience granted by the Group’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, to the Chevron delegation led by Vice President for Business Development, Joe Cook, along with other senior officials from the public enterprise.

“The meeting focused on advancing cooperation between the two companies, especially in upstream activities, in line with the memorandum of understanding signed on June 13, 2024. This agreement aims to develop oil and gas resources in areas of mutual interest within the Ahnet and Berkine basins, as well as to evaluate the progress of ongoing discussions between the two parties,” the statement noted.

During this occasion, Cook commended the dedicated efforts of both companies’ teams in working towards a mutually beneficial hydrocarbons operating agreement.

In response, Hachichi reiterated Sonatrach’s strong commitment to fostering this partnership by addressing and overcoming challenges to achieve the shared objectives that both parties seek.
