Severe Flooding in Spain Results in Multiple Casualties

Emergency services have recovered several bodies in the Valencia region of eastern Spain, where torrential rains have led to significant flooding, announced the regional government chief on Wednesday.

“We can confirm that some bodies have already been found,” Carlos Mazon informed the media, adding that authorities would refrain from providing further details until families had been notified.

On Tuesday, officials reported that seven individuals were missing, including one person in Alcudia and six in Letur, a town located in the neighboring province of Albacete (region of Castile-La Mancha). A flash flood had inundated streets, swept away vehicles, and submerged buildings, as evidenced by footage aired by Spanish television networks.

Emergency services, aided by drones, have been conducting search operations throughout the night for the missing persons in Letur, said Milagros Tolon, the central government’s delegate in Castile-La Mancha, during an interview with public broadcaster TVE.

“Our priority is to locate the missing individuals,” she added.
