Russia’s FSB Says It Foiled Ukrainian Plot to Assassinate Officials with Mail Bombs

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it had thwarted a series of assassination attempts targeting military and government officials, which it claimed were orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence. According to the FSB, the plot involved the delivery of explosive devices disguised as gift perfume sets through the mail.
The packages were reportedly intercepted at Chelyabinsk airport before they could reach their intended recipients. The FSB stated that the bombs were designed to detonate upon opening.
Additionally, Russian authorities reported discovering a hidden cache in Chelyabinsk containing four homemade explosive devices. They alleged that these bombs were meant for military personnel in the Tver, Rostov, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kaluga regions. The FSB suggested that the operation was part of broader covert activities and said it was investigating whether further attempts were planned.
A Russian citizen was arrested in Pervouralsk on suspicion of being recruited by Ukrainian intelligence to send the explosive packages. Russian officials described the alleged plot as an act of terrorism and stated that they would hold those responsible accountable.
