Russian Intelligence Accuses EU of Instigating Protests in Georgia

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has accused the European Union of intensifying pressure on Georgian politicians and supporting opposition efforts against the ruling “Georgian Dream” party. According to the SVR, the EU is determined to bring Georgia back on the path of democracy and European integration “at any cost.”
The SVR claims that the EU has moved beyond making promises and is now actively financing anti-government demonstrations. It alleges that the EU delegation in Tbilisi has allocated funds of up to €120 per protester participating in demonstrations. Additionally, the intelligence service states that the EU is prepared to provide Georgian bloggers with up to €50,000 to promote anti-government sentiments among the country’s youth.
The Russian agency also asserts that the EU is working on establishing a network of opposition parties to challenge the current Georgian leadership. These claims come as tensions rise over Georgia’s political direction, with increasing protests against the government and growing debate over the country’s European aspirations.
