Russia will not provide “charitable” gas deliveries, Russian FM Spox

Russia has halted gas supplies to Austria’s OMV after a legal dispute. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that this decision followed arbitration proceedings in which OMV won a claim for an alleged short supply of gas in the fall of 2022.

However, Russia cited the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline and the cessation of transit via Poland as key reasons for the supply reduction, which the arbitration and OMV ignored.

Zakharova emphasized that Austria must adhere to Russian presidential decree No. 172, which mandates payments in rubles, or risk further supply disruptions. She criticized OMV’s “unscrupulous behavior,” reaffirming that Russia will not provide “charitable” gas deliveries.
