Russia Slams NATO’s Baltic Sea Plans as Destined to Fail

Russia has criticized NATO’s intentions to turn the Baltic Sea into an internal waterway aimed at isolating Moscow, calling the plans “doomed to fail,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik.

Zakharova said NATO has openly pursued strategies to restrict maritime transport benefiting Russia and to militarize the region. “During [NATO] exercises, scenarios such as the blockade of the [Russian] Kaliningrad region are being practiced. The region is being actively militarized, pumped up with coalition forces and assets,” she added.

She further stressed that NATO has shown little willingness to engage in dialogue to reduce tensions in the Baltic region, reinforcing Russia’s stance that such isolation efforts will not succeed.
