President Tebboune Orders Immediate Return of Algeria’s Ambassador to Niamey

The Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has instructed the immediate return to Niamey of Algeria’s ambassador accredited to the Republic of Niger, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

“President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune has given instructions for the immediate return to Niamey of the ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria accredited to the sister Republic of Niger,” the statement said.

The decision follows the return to Algeria and resumption of duties on Feb. 12, 2026, of Niger’s ambassador accredited to Algeria.

It also reflects the high importance the president attaches to strengthening relations of fraternity, cooperation and good neighborliness with Niger, the ministry said.

The measure “will certainly help revive the tradition of bilateral political dialogue at the highest level, resume multifaceted cooperation initiated between the two sister countries and advance strategic projects for the benefit of regional and continental integration,” it added.
