The Secretary-General of the League of Sahel Scholars, Preachers and Imams, Lakhmissi Bezzaz, underscored the significance of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Algeria, noting that it carries profound implications that transcend religious boundaries to constitute a major political and diplomatic event.
In a statement to Algeria Press Service (APS), Bezzaz said “the Papal visit to Algeria transcends religious dimensions to constitute a major political and diplomatic event, particularly as his African tour will launch from Algeria, the beating heart of Africa.”
He added that the nation’s “historical weight and symbolism make it a pivotal bridge between two worlds and two continents.”
