The Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations affirmed on Wednesday that those questioning the eligibility of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif are driven by political agendas with opaque intentions. Citing a statement from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the mission stated that it “dispelled all doubts.”
During a briefing at the UN Security Council on the topic “Sustaining women, peace and security commitments in the context of accelerated drawdown of peace operations,” the Algerian representative emphasized, “The brave boxer, Miss Iman Khelif, was born female, grew up as a young girl, and has participated in sports as a woman by all standards.” He stressed, “There is no doubt about this, except for those with unclear political motives.”
The Algerian representative added, “I refer everyone to the International Olympic Committee itself, which has clearly and unequivocally dispelled any doubts about our courageous and honorable champion, the granddaughter of free Algerian women.”
