
Joint detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA), in coordination with various security services, succeeded in thwarting attempts to smuggle more than 4 quintals of cannabis across the borders with Morocco last week during operations carried out across different military regions, while also seizing over one million psychotropic pills, according to an operational report of the PNA published on Wednesday.
The same source said that “as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and fight organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of the People’s National Army conducted several operations between 10-16 December 2025, achieving significant results that demonstrate the high level of professionalism, alertness and constant readiness of our armed forces countrywide.”
As part of counterterrorism operations, “PNA detachments arrested 10 support elements for terrorist groups during separate operations across the country.” As part of the fight against organized crime and continued intensive efforts to tackle the drug trafficking scourge in the country, “joint PNA detachments, in coordination with various security services during operations across military regions, arrested 38 drug dealers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 4 quintals and 92 kilograms of cannabis across the Moroccan border, while seizing 1,016,772 psychotropic pills.” “In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, and Illizi, PNA detachments arrested 306 people and seized 53 vehicles, 336 power generators, 173 jackhammers, and 3 metal detectors, along with quantities of raw gold ore mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.”
In related operations, “13 additional people were arrested and two Kalashnikov submachine guns, one automatic pistol, 9 hunting rifles, and 245.62 liters of fuel were seized, along with 48 quintals of tobacco and 19 tons of food products intended for smuggling and speculation, during various operations.” Meanwhile, “Coastguard units foiled illegal immigration attempts along our national coasts and rescued 246 people aboard makeshift boats, while 313 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the country,” according to the same report.
