Pakistan: 10 Police Killed in Militant Attack

Authorities have reported that 10 Pakistani police were killed in an attack on a check post near the Afghan border, by approximately twenty militants during the night from Thursday to Friday. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the operation in a statement released to the press.

“Intense gunfire lasted for nearly an hour. Ten members of the Frontier Constabulary were martyred, and seven others were injured during the assault,” stated a senior intelligence officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, as cited by AFP.

According to the same source, around twenty militants stormed a post belonging to the Frontier Constabulary, a paramilitary police unit tasked with border security, in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (northwest Pakistan).
