The Algerian gymnast, Kaylia Nemour, won the uneven bars final on Sunday in a thrilling tournament against the Chinese Qiu Qiyuan, who scored 15.500.
Nemour topped the qualification scores with 15.700, following a smooth, fast-paced routine which featured a number of complex release-and-catch manoeuvres.
The 17-year-old gymnast’s victory is immensely celebrated by her Algerian supporters, as she grants her country the first gold medal in gymnastics.
