Lavrov Condemns West’s “Unlawful” Anti-Iran Policy, Backs Multipolar World Order

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sharply criticized what he described as the West’s unlawful and confrontational policy toward Iran, reaffirming Moscow’s readiness to assist Tehran in resolving the nuclear issue.
“Russia reaffirms its willingness to help our Iranian friends in looking for acceptable ways to resolve the nuclear crisis that was created by the Westerners, by Western Europeans, in violation of all possible agreements and norms introduced by the UN Security Council,” Lavrov said.
He accused Western countries of undermining international agreements and creating the current crisis through actions that disregard established legal frameworks.
Support for Multipolarity and UN Charter
Lavrov also stressed that Russia and Iran share a common position on the need to democratize international relations through a multipolar world order.
“For decades, this has been undermined by the collective West,” he said, adding that the United Nations Charter must be implemented “in its entirety and in its interconnectedness.”
According to Lavrov, Western countries selectively apply international law, particularly in relation to the conflict in Ukraine. He accused them of attempting to replace universally accepted legal norms with their own rules.
Accusations of Neocolonialism
The Russian foreign minister further argued that such policies reflect the West’s broader ambition to preserve a neocolonial system.
“This reflects the collective West’s desire to pursue their neocolonial policy, to try to live at the expense of others, as has been the case for the last 500 years, since the times of colonialism,” Lavrov said.
His remarks underscore Moscow’s broader narrative opposing Western dominance in global affairs and advocating for a more balanced international system based on sovereignty and equality among states.
