Iranian FM: Geneva Negotiations Limited to Nuclear and Regional Issues

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has firmly stated that there will be no discussions regarding the country’s missile or defense capabilities. He emphasized that the upcoming talks with European representatives in Geneva on Friday will be confined to nuclear and regional issues.

In comments reported by Iranian media on Friday, Araghchi clarified that his visit to Geneva is dedicated solely to addressing nuclear and regional matters. “Iran will not engage in discussions about its ballistic power,” he asserted.

Characterizing Iran’s missile capabilities as “a vital defensive asset,” Araghchi remarked, “Our missiles are designed to protect the country and provide a deterrent effect.” He made it clear that Iran “will neither negotiate nor compromise on its defense capabilities.”

Addressing the perceived willingness of the United States to exert pressure on Iran to engage in negotiations amidst ongoing hostilities, the Iranian minister stated, “Let’s be clear: we are not seeking to negotiate with anyone while Zionist aggression against Iran continues.”

“As long as this invasion and aggression persist, there is fundamentally no room for dialogue and diplomacy,” he continued.

“Iran is exercising its legitimate right to defend itself, and this defense will not cease under any circumstances,” Araghchi affirmed, as he is scheduled to meet with European ministers and the head of the European Union’s foreign policy in Switzerland on Friday.

This meeting takes place against the backdrop of recent attacks carried out by the Zionist entity on June 13, which resulted in the deaths of numerous high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary citizens.

In retaliation, Iranian forces swiftly launched counterattacks, conducting 16 waves of missile strikes against the aggressors as part of Operation “Honest Promise 3.”
