IMF Approves Additional $58 Million Disbursement to Central African Republic

WASHINGTON – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced Wednesday the approval of the third and fourth reviews of its ongoing aid program in the Central African Republic, unlocking an immediate disbursement of $58 million to the sub-Saharan country.
The funds were released following approval by the IMF’s Executive Board, bringing the total disbursed under the $197 million aid package, initially granted in April 2023, to $124 million.
According to the IMF, the financing is intended to help the Central African Republic meet its balance of payments needs and sustain public spending in essential sectors such as health and education. The Washington-based institution also highlighted “progress made in digitizing the tax administration, as well as in strengthening the financial intelligence unit and the Court of Audit.”
The IMF forecasts 3% economic growth in the country this year, marking an acceleration from the previous year, with inflation expected to ease in the second half of 2025—partly due to a drop in fuel prices observed in May.
