London – The Board of Governors (BoG) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) convened its regular meeting in Vienna, Austria, to discuss key nuclear issues, including Iran’s nuclear program. The session, which will run until Friday, includes the presentation of IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi’s latest report on Tehran’s nuclear activities.
Representatives from 35 member states are set to review nuclear safety, research, and the implementation of Safeguards Agreements. A focal point of the meeting is Grossi’s assessment of Iran’s compliance with the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). In its previous session, the BoG adopted a resolution proposed by Western powers urging Iran to address outstanding issues related to the Safeguards Agreement, despite Iran’s insistence on its full cooperation with the IAEA.
Iran dismissed the resolution as politically motivated, emphasizing that IAEA inspections have consistently verified the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. Tehran maintains that any remaining concerns should be resolved through technical, non-political dialogue, reaffirming its commitment to the Safeguards Agreement and cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
