Georgians head to the polls in legislative elections

TBILISI – Georgians began voting on Saturday in the legislative elections to renew all 150 seats in Parliament, local media reported.
Polls opened at 0400 GMT and will close at 1600 GMT, with some 3.5 million Georgians eligible to cast ballots.
Recent polls suggest that a new alliance of opposition parties could defeat the Georgian Dream, the conservative party of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili. Among the four opposition parties involved is the United National Movement, led by imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili.
This election employs a proportional representation system and is being monitored by observers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
