French Lawyer Gilles Devers, Advocate for Sahrawi and Palestinian Causes, Dies at 68

French lawyer Gilles Devers, renowned for his tireless advocacy for Sahrawi and Palestinian causes, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 68 after a prolonged battle with an incurable illness. Devers had been a passionate and committed figure in the legal world, known for his dedication to human rights and justice.

A member of the Lyon Bar since 1985, Devers also served as a lecturer at Lyon 3 University, where he was qualified to supervise doctoral research. He made significant contributions to the legal field, not only through his advocacy but also as the editor-in-chief of Law, Ethics, and Care, and as the author of numerous legal works that spanned a range of topics.

Throughout his career, Devers was a staunch defender of the rights of oppressed peoples, with a particular focus on the Western Sahara and Palestine. His lifelong commitment to these causes earned him the respect and admiration of both his peers and the communities he served.
