Football/CHAN 2024 (Qualifiers): Draw Scheduled for October 9

The draw for the qualifiers of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), a tournament exclusively featuring local players, is set to take place on October 9, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This event will kick off the journey for African national teams competing for a place in the final stage of the tournament, which will be hosted from February 1 to February 28, 2025, across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The qualifiers will unfold over two rounds:

– First Round: October 25 to October 27 and November 1 to November 3, 2024.

– Second Round: December 20 to December 22 and December 27 to December 29, 2024.

Additionally, CAF has reminded teams that have not yet registered to complete their registration through the competition management system by September 29, 2024. This deadline is essential for ensuring their participation in the qualifiers.

It is important to note that the federal bureau of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), which convened last Saturday in Algiers, has opted “not to participate in this competition and to redirect efforts and resources towards youth categories, both male and female,” according to a statement published on its official website.

In the most recent edition of CHAN, held in Algeria in 2023, Senegal emerged victorious, defeating Algeria 0-0 (5-4 on penalties) in the final match played on February 4 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki (Algiers).
