Cyclone Chido Strikes Mozambique, Death Toll Reaches 73

Cyclone Chido has claimed 73 lives in Mozambique, with most fatalities (66) reported in the northern Cabo Delgado province. Four deaths occurred in Nampula, and three in Niassa, while one person remains missing.
The cyclone caused significant damage, injuring over 540 people and bringing winds of 260 km/h (161 mph) and heavy rainfall of 250 mm (10 inches) in 24 hours. It struck Mozambique on Sunday after devastating Mayotte, where fears of a high death toll persist.
More than 39,100 homes were destroyed, and over 329,500 people were affected, highlighting the urgent need for aid and disaster response in the region.
