Belgium: New Shooting Linked to Drug Trafficking in Brussels

BRUSSELS, February 6, 2025 – A new shooting connected to drug trafficking took place overnight from Wednesday to Thursday near a metro station in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht. This incident marks the third shooting within a 24-hour period, as confirmed by the prosecutor for the Belgian capital.
“It is regrettable that we have witnessed three shootings in just 24 hours—one in Saint-Josse and two in Clémenceau. This is completely unacceptable,” stated prosecutor Julien Moinil during an interview with French-language public radio on Thursday.
According to multiple media reports, one person sustained a leg injury during a gunfire exchange that occurred around 3:30 AM (2:30 AM GMT) near the Clémenceau metro station in Anderlecht.
The same location had previously experienced gunfire from an assault rifle on Wednesday at approximately 6:00 AM, which was recorded by surveillance cameras. This prompted a significant police operation to locate at least two armed suspects, each carrying a Kalashnikov-style rifle. Both individuals remain at large.
On Thursday morning, the prosecutor confirmed that another shooting transpired at the same location overnight but did not disclose any information about potential victims.
“A police raid is currently underway, and I will refrain from further comments to protect the integrity of the investigation,” remarked the magistrate.
He stressed that all three shootings since Tuesday evening—including the incident in Saint-Josse, which reportedly resulted in two injuries—occurred in areas recognized for drug sales.
“We have observed suspicious activities in some footage that suggest these are retaliatory actions aimed at seizing territory,” Moinil added.
