ALGIERS, Nov 13, 2025 – The African Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and Other Health Technologies will be held from November 27 to 29 in Algiers, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced Thursday the Minister of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Ouacim Kouidri.

Speaking at a press conference, Kouidri explained that this first edition, organized jointly by the Ministries of Pharmaceutical Industry and Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to “review ways to strengthen medicine production in Africa and develop the health sector across the continent.”

Through organizing this continental meeting, Algeria “reaffirms its commitment to the principles of African solidarity and regional integration, in line with the vision of the President of the Republic to make Africa a continent strong through its sovereignty, united by its interests, and integrated in its development,” the minister stated.

The conference will bring together delegations from 15 countries represented by their ministers, including Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Angola, and Uganda, as well as 700 participants and 400 experts, Kouidri said.

He added that this continental meeting, which falls within the framework of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, “seeks to contribute effectively to the implementation of the African Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan, aimed at ensuring equitable and sustainable access to medicines and health technologies.”

The African Ministerial Conference on Local Drug Production will conclude with the Algiers Declaration, containing a series of recommendations to achieve “integration in the field of pharmaceutical industry in Africa,” the minister noted.

Kouidri emphasized that this continental event “will mark a real turning point in consolidating African cooperation in the fields of health and pharmaceutical industry, helping lay the foundations for concrete partnerships that guarantee the peoples of the continent access to medicine, healthcare, and development.”
