Algeria’s Membership in New Dev’t Bank Enhances Prospects for Joining BRICS

ALGIERS – BRICS, now with at least 9 members following the January 2024 expansion, continues to attract interest from other countries. Turkey, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Bahrain, Pakistan, and Thailand have all expressed interest in joining the group.
Algeria’s accession to the New Development Bank increases the chances of the country joining the BRICS in the future, Algerian Finance Minister Laaziz Faid said.
“Algeria’s agreement to join the New Development Bank and participation in its activities indicates an intention to join the activity of a diverse network with wide opportunities, which in turn may increase the possibilities for inviting Algeria to join the BRICS in the future,” Faid said.
