Algeria’s Health Security Agency Takes Part in the 158th WHO Executive Board Meeting

The Algerian Health Security Agency, represented by its President, Professor Kamal Sanhadji, is taking part in the 158th session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), which is taking place at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland) from 2 to 7 February, the Agency said in a press release.

The 158th Executive Board meeting will address several key agenda items, including “the Director-General’s report, regional committee reports to the Executive Board, the Programme, Budget and Administration Committee report, and the Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response report,” according to the same source.

This session will focus on four major strategic priorities, the first of which will address health security by including follow-up on the political declaration from the General Assembly meeting on preventing and controlling non-communicable diseases, strengthening mental health, and combating communicable diseases (including the vaccination program, the roadmap for neglected tropical diseases, and the tuberculosis elimination strategy).

The first priority area will also cover universal health coverage, including emergency and surgical care, medical transplantation and rare diseases, primary health care, health in the sustainable development program, combating counterfeit medical products, antimicrobial resistance, digital governance and artificial intelligence in healthcare.

The second one is dedicated to health protection, which includes responding to health emergencies, strengthening the evidence base for public health and social measures, the global health and peace initiative, combating poliomyelitis, implementing resolution WHA75.11 (2022), and monitoring the health situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The third area will focus on health promotion, covering rehabilitation in health systems, promoting health and well-being, indigenous peoples’ health, maternal and child nutrition and strengthening health economics for all.

The fourth area focuses on enhancing organizational performance, covering the budget and financial matters, administrative and governance issues, the provisional agenda of the 79th World Health Assembly, and the date and venue of the 159th Executive Board session.
