The Algerian Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Bakhta Selma Mansouri, has continued her series of bilateral meetings in New York aimed at enhancing consultation and coordination on issues pertinent to Algeria, particularly those related to Africa, as stated in a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs issued on Thursday.
“On the second day of her visit to New York, where she is participating in a high-level public debate at the Security Council regarding practices of multilateralism and global governance reform, Secretary of State Bakhta Selma Mansouri continued her bilateral discussions to strengthen collaboration on matters of importance to Algeria, especially concerning African issues,” the communiqué highlighted.
Mansouri held a bilateral meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, during which they exchanged views on critical global peace and security challenges, particularly in Africa, which confronts various threats including armed conflicts, terrorism, and organized crime—areas that the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs prioritizes in its efforts.
Additionally, the Secretary of State met with Cheryl Pearce, Deputy Advisor at the UN Office of Military Affairs (OMA), where both parties addressed the numerous challenges facing UN peacekeeping operations against the backdrop of the current international landscape, characterized by alarmingly escalating geopolitical tensions alongside multiple political and security crises,” the source concluded.
