
ALGIERS – An armed terrorist surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, while three individuals providing support to terrorist groups were arrested in various operations carried out by detachments of the Algerian army across the national territory between August 13 and 19, according to an operational report released Wednesday by the ANP.
“In the context of sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and organized crime in all its forms, ANP units and detachments conducted, during the period from August 13 to 19, 2025, several operations that yielded high-quality results, reflecting the professionalism, vigilance, and permanent readiness of our armed forces throughout the national territory,” the same source indicated.
As part of counterterrorism operations and thanks to the efforts of ANP units, “the terrorist identified as Okba Kounta Sid Ahmed, alias Mohamed, surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, in the 6th Military Region. He was in possession of a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, a Semenov-type semi-automatic rifle, a quantity of ammunition, and other items. Meanwhile, other ANP detachments arrested three individuals providing support to terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.”
In the fight against organized crime and “continuing efforts to curb the scourge of drug trafficking in our country,” combined ANP detachments, in coordination with various security services, “intercepted 31 drug traffickers during operations across the military regions and foiled attempts to smuggle 166 kilograms of processed cannabis from the Moroccan borders. Additionally, 2.23 kilograms of cocaine and 131,318 psychotropic tablets were seized.”
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and Illizi, ANP detachments “arrested 270 individuals and seized 23 vehicles, 158 generators, 63 jackhammers, four metal detectors, as well as quantities of raw gold ore, stones, and equipment used in illicit gold mining operations.”
Similarly, “11 other individuals were apprehended, while seven hunting rifles, 17,035 liters of fuel, and six quintals of tobacco were seized in separate operations.”
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard “foiled illegal migration attempts along the national coastline, rescuing 513 individuals aboard makeshift boats, while 507 undocumented migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the national territory.”
