Algeria, South Africa Sign MoU to Boost Higher Education, Scientific Research

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Thursday in Algiers between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Republic of South Africa, aimed at enhancing their partnership and bilateral cooperation.
The signing ceremony, held at the ministry’s headquarters, was presided over by the ministers of both countries, Kamel Baddari and Blade Nzimande. This memorandum serves as a comprehensive roadmap for the period from 2026 to 2028.
During the event, Baddari highlighted “the depth of the historical and fraternal ties between the two countries,” emphasizing the necessity of further strengthening bilateral cooperation by establishing a bridge of knowledge, research, and innovation rooted in scientific collaboration and the exchange of experiences between the universities of both nations.
To this end, the minister expressed the commitment of both parties “to initiate joint research projects in national priority areas, particularly in artificial intelligence, food security, and health.”
Baddari also announced plans for regular visits between the two parties to “reinforce cooperative ties, establish the principle of knowledge diplomacy, and address the challenges posed by international competition.”
In his remarks, Blade Nzimande acknowledged the “deep historical relations” between the two countries and commended “the high standards achieved by Algerian universities.”
He further emphasized the importance of “sharing experiences and expertise between the academic institutions of both countries through increased bilateral visits and the programming of joint research projects, with the aim of enhancing and broadening the prospects of this cooperation.”
