Algeria-Slovenia Energy Ties Strengthened by New Gas Contract Between Sonatrach and Geoplin

ALGIERS – Algerian energy group Sonatrach has announced that a new natural gas sales and purchase agreement with Slovenian company Geoplin marks another key step in strengthening energy relations between Algeria and Slovenia.

According to a statement from Sonatrach, the deal—signed on Tuesday in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana—will allow the transport of natural gas from Algeria to Slovenia via the pipeline that connects Algeria and Italy. The signing ceremony was held under the supervision of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, during President Tebboune’s official state visit to Slovenia.

Sonatrach emphasized that the agreement “reflects the shared will of both parties to reinforce their relationship in order to develop new partnership opportunities in the future.” The contract is set to enhance Sonatrach’s position in the Slovenian market while responding to increasing demand for natural gas across Europe.

“This partnership will not only strengthen Algeria’s presence on the international energy stage but also reaffirms its commitment to broadening bilateral economic cooperation and elevating it to higher levels,” Sonatrach stated.

The agreement comes as part of President Tebboune’s broader efforts to deepen bilateral ties during his state visit, made at the invitation of Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar.
