
ALGIERS- President of the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CNESE), Rabéa Kharfi, highlighted at the General Assembly of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS), held in Shanghai (China), Algeria’s socioeconomic achievements, while expressing satisfaction with the country’s progress in terms of housing, education, and health, according to a council statement issued on Sunday.
On this occasion, Kharfi emphasized the importance of strengthening contacts between the Association and its members to foster exchange of expertise and best practices.
This session was marked by the presentation, discussion, and adoption of the Association’s annual and financial reports, as well as a review of its cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
It was also marked by the holding of a study on sustainable development indicators for social dialogue, aiming to create a sustainable development index for member councils.
The study took a holistic approach, joining economic, environmental, social, and financial dimensions to develop a comprehensive understanding of sustainable economic development.
For his part, the CNESE President met, on this occasion, with the Vice President of the Chinese Economic and Social Council (CESC), with whom she discussed “future prospects for cooperation, particularly in the field of technological innovation.”
In this regard, the president praised “China’s role in economic development.”
Furthermore, Kharfi discussed the means likely to strengthen cooperation and exchange between Algeria and Russiain order “to cope with the economic and social challenges faced by both countries.”
The President had “fruitful discussions with several African delegations, including those from Benin, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” added the source.
On this occasion, Kharfi reiterated the “CNESE’s commitment to promoting cooperation with international partners and expanding its role within international organizations that support dialogue and consultation.”
She also highlighted the growing role of economic and social councils in developing innovative solutions and achieving equitable development for the African continent.
Additionally, she commended “the development of relations between Algeria and China, especially as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.”
