Algeria Chairs Key African Governance Meeting in Johannesburg

The Algerian Secretary of State for African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bakhta Selma Mansouri, arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to preside over the ninth meeting of the Steering and Monitoring Committee of Contact Points for the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).

The meeting focuses on critical issues aimed at strengthening governance across the African continent. Key topics on the agenda include the strategic action plan for the APRM (2025-2028), achieving financial sustainability, and supporting the efficiency of governance institutions within Africa.

This gathering also serves as a preparatory step for the 34th Summit of the APRM Forum of Heads of State and Government, set to be held under Algeria’s rotating presidency, led by the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The summit seeks to enhance transparency, foster accountability, and ensure the achievement of the ambitious objectives outlined in the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and its Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan.
