Algerian President Announces Launch of Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project Across Niger

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the launch of the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project traversing Niger, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations and ending a period of tension between the two countries. The announcement came during the Nigerien president’s official visit to Algeria, emphasizing strengthened cooperation across multiple sectors.

President Tebboune confirmed that both nations have agreed to enhance collaboration in security, energy—covering hydrocarbons and electricity—university and vocational training, and military education. “We have also agreed to launch the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project traversing Niger,” he said, adding that Algeria is fully committed to supporting Niger in all areas, providing all available resources.

The leaders also agreed to examine detailed projects in healthcare, secondary education, kidney dialysis services, and the creation of a Press House in the Niamey capital to support Niger’s media community. On counterterrorism, President Tebboune emphasized that both countries are “in the same camp” and pledged to cooperate using Algeria’s full capabilities and expertise. He concluded by reaffirming the enduring bonds between the Algerian and Nigerien peoples, describing them as “brotherly neighbors united by strong ties of fraternity.”
