BEIJING – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday and expressed his hope that the European Union could avert a trade conflict with China.
For his part, President Xi Jinping emphasised the importance of developing long-term, stable, and high-level bilateral relationships with Spain. Additionally, he expressed China’s willingness to enhance cooperation and communication in international organisations such as the G20.
The EU is considering the imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese-manufactured electric vehicles (EVs), a move that Sánchez finds troubling. He emphasised that “a trade war would benefit no one,” underscoring his concern over the potential negative consequences for all parties involved.
