ADEN (Yemen) – Yemen’s Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that the number of cholera-related deaths in the Taiz governorate has risen to 52 since the beginning of 2024.
Tayseer Al-Sami, the media official for the Ministry’s office in Taiz, reported that “the death toll due to cholera in the governorate has now reached 52 cases since the start of this year.”
Al-Sami also noted that the number of suspected cholera cases in Taiz had risen to 8,461, with 1,382 of those confirmed through laboratory tests.
Yemen, which has been embroiled in a conflict for over a decade, has seen relative calm in recent years. However, the ongoing war has severely damaged various sectors, including healthcare, leading to one of the world’s most devastating humanitarian crises, according to the United Nations.
