WHO: Over 4,500 Deaths Due to Covid-19 Worldwide in Four Weeks

GENEVA, March 19, 2025 – According to a bulletin from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 147,000 individuals have contracted the coronavirus, resulting in over 4,500 fatalities globally between January 6 and February 2, 2025.

The WHO’s report revealed that new cases dropped by 16%, while deaths increased by 28% compared to the preceding four weeks.

Europe experienced a significant decline, with infections decreasing by 52% and deaths falling by 23%. Conversely, countries in the Americas reported alarming increases of 100% in new cases and 42% in deaths.

However, the WHO cautioned that these statistics may not accurately represent the global situation due to reduced testing and genomic sequencing efforts.

During this four-week period, the United States recorded the highest number of deaths, totaling 3,739. This was followed by Brazil with 233 deaths, Sweden with 165, Russia with 121, and Greece with 98.
