WHO Chief Warns Gaza Violence Endangers Millions, Calls for Ceasefire

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned on Wednesday that the resumption of hostilities in Gaza is putting “millions of lives at risk again” and urged an immediate return to a ceasefire.

“Today we lost one of our own. My heartfelt condolences to UNOPS for the death of their colleague,” Tedros said on X, referring to the UN Office for Project Services. UNOPS confirmed earlier that one of its staff members was killed in a detonation in Deir al-Balah. Tedros condemned the ongoing violence, noting that strikes have killed hundreds, including children, and reiterated calls for the immediate resumption of the ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the protection of humanitarian workers and civilians.

Since Tuesday, at least 970 people have been killed in renewed Zionist airstrikes on Gaza, breaking a ceasefire agreement with Hamas that had been in place since January. The total Palestinian death toll from Zionist military campaign since October 2023 has exceeded 50,000, mostly women and children, with over 112,000 injured. In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former War Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes, while the Zionist entity also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
