Venezuela Severs Diplomatic Ties with Peru

Venezuela Foreign Minister Ivan Gil announced on Tuesday that his country has decided to cut diplomatic relations with Peru.
In a social media post, Gil stated, “The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has decided to sever diplomatic relations with the Republic of Peru, based on Article 45 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.”
Gil’s announcement followed comments made by Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea regarding the presidential elections in Venezuela.
The diplomat further explained, “We are compelled to make this decision following the reckless statements by the Peruvian Foreign Minister, which disregard the will of the Venezuelan people and our Constitution.”
