UNSC: A3+ Group Strongly Condemns Zionist Military Aggression Against Syria

The A3+ group at the United Nations Security Council issued a strong condemnation of military aggression against Syria on Thursday in New York, characterizing it as a violation of international law. They called for the protection of civilians and infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law.
During an emergency session of the Security Council convened at the request of Algeria and Somalia to discuss the repercussions of these attacks on Syria, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, delivered a speech on behalf of the A3+ group (comprising Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone, and Guyana). He expressed concern over the escalating military actions in Syria, which, occurring at a critical juncture in its history, “further exacerbates an already precarious situation.”
The A3+ members condemned the military aggression against Syria as “a violation of international law, particularly the United Nations Charter,” emphasizing the alarm raised by the UN Special Envoy regarding these attacks that “undermine efforts to rebuild a new Syria capable of living in peace both internally and with the broader region.”
They specifically called for “the protection of civilians and infrastructure in line with international humanitarian law,” voicing concern about the implications of the destruction of Syrian military capabilities on the country’s stability and its ability to ensure security and effectively combat terrorism.
Reiterating their call for an end to the military incursion into Syria and the withdrawal of occupying forces from Syrian territory, the A3+ group reaffirmed that the Golan Heights is occupied Syrian territory, as stated in Security Council Resolution 497 (1981).
In this context, the A3+ reiterated their “steadfast commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria,” expressing their readiness to collaborate with all member states to achieve a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in Syria, while prioritizing the needs and aspirations of the Syrian people.
Finally, the A3+ group “called upon the international community to respond to the appeals of the Syrian people by mobilizing necessary resources, lifting unilateral sanctions, and providing essential support.”
