UN Security Council: Algeria Calls for High-Level Meeting on Palestine

Algeria has formally requested a high-level meeting of the Security Council to take place on September 27, coinciding with the general debate at the United Nations General Assembly, to address the situation in Palestine.
This appeal follows statements made by Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, who underscored the urgent need for decisions supported by mechanisms for enforcement and accountability to ensure their implementation. He emphasized Algeria’s conviction that peace must be imposed upon those who reject and disbelieve in it.
“Today we urgently need decisions backed by a robust follow-up a robust follow-up and accountability mechanism. This is why my country reaffirmed its belief that for those who reject peace, for those who don’t believe in peace, Peace must be imposed upon them,” Ambassador Bendjama stated during the Security Council meeting focused on the Middle East situation, including the Palestinian cause.
After calling for a “serious and clear stand against the deteriorating situation in the region,” Bendjama reminded attendees that “the primary task of this very council is the maintenance of international peace and security.” He further remarked that “the gravity of the situation in the Middle East requires more than rhetoric. It demands decisive and swift action. Everyone under this roof must recognize that the region is on the edge of an abyss or a precipice.” He cautioned, “we must heed the lessons of history to prevent the worst, which is not less than a full-fledged regional war”.
The Algerian Ambassador expressed his outrage over the impunity enjoyed by the Zionist occupier, its disregard for previous agreements, and its repeated violations of international law, which forms the foundation of civilized societies.
“If we are serious about protecting future generation from the scourge of war, as we pledged in the United Nations Charter, the solution is clear; there can be no peace in the Middle East without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” he asserted.
Algeria’s call for this high-level meeting on Palestine comes just 48 hours after convening an emergency Security Council session to discuss serious developments in Lebanon, particularly the explosions resulting from large-scale cyberattacks attributed to Zionist entity.
It is important to note that at least 37 people were killed and nearly 3,000 others injured in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday due to explosions targeting thousands of wireless communication devices across the country, while the death toll in Palestine has risen to 41,272 deaths and 95,551 injured.
