UN Launches $3.32 Billion Appeal to Support Ukraine War Victims and Refugees

The United Nations launched a $3.32 billion appeal on Thursday to support those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in 2025. The “Ukraine Regional Refugee and Humanitarian Response Plan” was initiated by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The appeal aims to assist 8.2 million people impacted by the crisis, both within Ukraine and across borders. Humanitarian organizations plan to provide food, health care, shelter, cash assistance, emergency education, protection, and other essential services to 6 million people in the coming year. The report emphasizes the need for continued international solidarity to sustain critical efforts and highlights that with adequate funding and access, aid can continue to be delivered across the country.
UN officials, including Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, and Filippo Grandi, UNHCR High Commissioner, stressed the importance of supporting displaced Ukrainians and praised host countries for their efforts to help refugees rebuild their lives. Grandi called for continued support to keep the hope of return alive for those displaced by the war.
