UK’s Starmer Condemns Rising Anti-Muslim Hatred as “Abhorrent”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Wednesday condemned growing anti-Muslim hatred in the UK, calling it “abhorrent” and urging stronger efforts to confront the rise in racist incidents targeting Muslim communities.

Speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons, Starmer was responding to Labour MP Afzal Khan, who asked what measures the government intends to take to counter increasing levels of Islamophobia and racism against Muslims.

“Anti-Muslim hatred is abhorrent … and has no place in our society,” Starmer said, stressing that the spike in incidents “must be addressed.”

He announced increased funding to protect mosques and Muslim faith schools across the country, and confirmed that the government will introduce a new fund dedicated to monitoring anti-Muslim hatred.

Starmer also noted that his administration is working on defining anti-Muslim hatred as the UK marks Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) this November.
