UK Insists Ukraine ‘Must Have a Seat’ at Negotiating Table for Lasting Peace

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine on Monday, emphasizing that Kyiv must have a seat at the table in any future peace negotiations to ensure a lasting resolution. Speaking via video link to world leaders gathered in Kyiv to mark the third anniversary of the Ukrainian Crisis, Starmer stressed the need for an enduring peace rather than a temporary halt in fighting.
Starmer argued that Russia does not “hold all the cards” in the ongoing conflict, pointing to Moscow’s struggling economy and significant military losses, including the depletion of its land forces and Black Sea Fleet. He called for increased military assistance to Ukraine and heightened economic pressure on Russia to help secure a durable peace.
Ahead of discussions with G7 leaders, Starmer urged allies to take on “more risk,” including reassessing the oil price cap. He highlighted the recent global diplomatic shifts initiated by US President Donald Trump, calling it an opportunity to strengthen the peace effort. Starmer concluded by insisting that any settlement must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and include strong security guarantees for Kyiv.
