The Arab Group reaffirms support for Guterres

New York (United Nations) – The Arab Group in New York expressed on Friday its full support for the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, in his consistent endeavour to abide by the United Nations Charter since the start of the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip and the attacks on Lebanese and Syrian territories.
This statement came in response to the declaration by the Zionist foreign minister last Wednesday, banning Antonio Guterres from entering the occupied Palestinian territories, claiming that he was “an unwelcome person” and that he had not “clearly condemned” the retaliatory missile attack launched by Iran on the Zionist entity.
The Arab Group in New York emphasised its expectation for UN member states to condemn this declaration and express their support for Guterres in light of the repeated attacks against him and UN staff, which “constitutes a dangerous precedent that must be confronted to prevent it from being normalised.”
The Arab Group also condemned the Zionist ground invasion of Lebanon and the attack on Syria. Meanwhile, they praised the Secretary-General’s efforts in calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urgent action to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation afflicting the war-torn Strip.
The Arab Group stressed the necessity of providing protection to UN staff in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and expressed special appreciation for the UNRWA employees’ work during the current crisis. Additionally, they called for holding the Zionist entity accountable for the deaths of more than 220 UN personnel since the start of the Zionist aggression on Gaza and Lebanon.
