The Sudan Doctors Network has announced that more than 3,000 cases of measles have been recorded in the South and West Darfur states over the past three months, warning of a serious deterioration in health conditions across the region.
In a statement, the network said its medical teams operating in Darfur have documented a rapid spread of the highly contagious disease, raising concerns about the risk of further outbreaks amid fragile healthcare infrastructure and ongoing humanitarian challenges.
The organization cautioned that the surge in measles cases signals a broader public health crisis, calling for urgent intervention to contain the epidemic, strengthen vaccination campaigns, and improve access to medical services in the affected areas.
