South Korea’s Defense Minister Apologizes and Resigns Over Martial Law Controversy

South Korea’s Defense Minister, Kim Yong-Hyun, has issued a public apology and announced his resignation following the controversy surrounding the attempted imposition of martial law in the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Kim expressed deep regret over the confusion and public concern triggered by the martial law proposal.

“I deeply regret and take full responsibility for the confusion and concern caused to the public regarding the martial law,” Kim said, adding that he had submitted his resignation to President Yoon Suk-yeol.

The decision to step down follows significant backlash over the failed martial law plan, which sparked political turmoil in the nation.
