Shooting in Montenegro: Death Toll Rises to 12

An armed man killed at least 12 people, including two minors, on Wednesday in a restaurant located in a village in southern Montenegro. Among the deceased were the owner of the establishment and several of his family members, according to an updated toll released by the prosecutor’s office on Thursday.
“Two children are among the twelve fatalities,” stated Prosecutor Andrijana Nastic in a media briefing, revising an earlier count that reported at least ten deaths.
The shooter took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while surrounded by police.
In a speech on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic announced a three-day national mourning period from Thursday to Saturday. He characterized the incident as “a confrontation in a restaurant where weapons were drawn and tensions escalated.” Mr. Spajic also indicated that new restrictions on firearm possession would be implemented.
