Russia Denounces Bloomberg Report on Alleged Amendments to US Peace Plan for Ukraine as Fake News

The Russian Foreign Ministry has dismissed a Bloomberg report claiming that Moscow proposed amendments to a US-backed peace plan for Ukraine. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the report “fake news” on her Telegram channel, adding that the media outlet relied on “unreliable sources” and that references to sources “close to the Kremlin” are merely a cover for misinformation.

The comments come in the wake of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s December 24 announcement of a 20-point plan, which Ukraine allegedly presented during negotiations in the United States. The Kremlin and the Russian Foreign Ministry have repeatedly emphasized their dissatisfaction with several elements of Kiev’s plan, including Russia’s demands for the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbass, Ukraine’s formal renunciation of NATO membership, and restrictions on the size of its army.
